The brilliant Raised By Records label have done an interview and exclusive mix for K-MAG

“Bucking the current climate, the new Raised By Records label is intent on doing things properly and ensuring that the music they put out is presented with the full depth and value it deserves. From hand-crafted artwork to film to sample packs and more, they are providing a platform for the full articulation of their artists’ visions across different forms of media. Their brilliant debut release from Memotone (which featured in our ‘essential bass music release for October’) is out now with plenty more in the pipeline as we look towards 2012.”

If you’ve ever thrown a whisk at a piano repeatedly, or if you enjoy strapping drum pads to your hands and massaging a beluga whale; you may already have some idea what Memotone’s (aka William Yates, no not that William Yeats bard lovers…) music sounds like. There are elements of dubstep, IDM, classical music and electronica at play; but with anomalies like Aaliyah remixes, ethereal collaborations with Soosh and Leafcutter John and the occasional Farfisa organ solo, Memotone is a musical project that surprises and evolves as Yates appears to gain in confidence and popularity.
Largely Memotone’s self-promotion has included enigmatic videos, showcasing his nimble fingerwork and revealing a veritable toybox of instruments in his ‘studio’; some quite literally taken from a toybox. It’s a sign that his star is on the rise that he has recently released a stunning, pared down video to accompany stand out track ‘Clockwork Horse’ and a plethora of material being released to critical acclaim; including: a 3 track 12″ and digital release with Raised by Records (3rd October) [website] called ‘Memotone EP’; and another 4 track 12″ and digital release with Black Acre Records (31st October) [website] called ‘Lost Hours EP’.
